West Virginia leads the nation in substance abuse deaths per capita. This epidemic has given rise to a novel population of high risk, obstetrics patients with opiate abuse. Appropriate education, counseling, and implementation contraception is extreme importance among this due risks unintended pregnancy. study was retrospective chart review determine compliance uptake contraceptive methods by maternal buprenorphine maintenance program prior following standardized education Medicaid coverage immediate postpartum long acting reversible contraceptives (LARC). Rates planned rates actual method initiation were compared between two groups representing distinct time periods before after intervention. efficacy options, especially LARC noted statistically significantly increase dedicated coverage. Patients receiving no at all decreased these interventions. desiring surgical sterilization continued encounter barriers care as rate desired still very low.
